The Patriot Act requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person opening an account which includes your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to issue you a tax form at the end of each year.
You’re only able to open one Acorns account per Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). If you are having issues with your SSN during the registration process then that suggests that you have likely created an account with Acorns in the past, so rather than opening a new Acorns account, you would need to reopen the existing account. If you can recall the email address associated with the pre-existing Acorns account (it might be an older email address), go ahead and log in (and reset the password if needed) and follow the prompt to reopen your account. Please note, while you can use an ITIN to open an Acorns Invest or Later account, you cannot use an ITIN to open an Acorns Checking account. Lincoln Savings Bank, member FDIC, our bank partner that manages all our Acorns Checking accounts updated their policy on ITINs. Therefore an Acorns Checking cannot be opened if signed up with an ITIN.
