How to Setup and Use the Acorns Earn Safari Extension

With the Acorns Earn Safari Extension, customers have access to over 12,000 brands that will allow them to save and invest more. by shopping with their favorite brands! The extension is free to use and works just like the Acorns Chrome Extension, except on the Safari Browser on iPhone (not supported iPad).

The Safari Extension settings can be quite nuanced due to Apple's security and privacy settings. The information below provides direction on how your settings should be set up in order to successfully take advantage of the Acorns Earn Safari Extension.

Basic Requirements for the Safari Extension

  1. You must be using an iOS mobile device (i.e. iPhone) and must also be running iOS 15 on your iPhone. This is a mobile-only supported product so it will not work on your MacBook and works best on iPhone.

  2. You must be using Safari as your mobile internet browser.

  3. You must NOT be in Private mode.

  4. You must also have "Allow Apps to Track" enabled. On your iOS device, you can check this by going to Settings > Privacy > Tracking > Allow Apps to Track, and ensure it is enabled.

  5. You CANNOT activate another rebate/coupon type extension (i.e. Honey, Rakuten, or eBates). This would be "double-dipping" within the affiliate network. Only one attribution can be rewarded to a customer per purchase. Whichever rebate the user LAST CLICKED will be attributed.

  6. You must have or sign up for an Acorns account to use the Acorns Earn Safari Browser Extension and generate Earn Rewards.

  7. You must have an Acorns account in good standing to use the Earn Safari Browser extension and generate Earn Rewards.

How to Activate the Safari Extension

Please follow the steps below to activate the Acorns Safari Extension and start earning investments for your future.

  1. Tap the "Menu" icon on Safari (if not on Safari tap into your iPhone Settings (Gear) icon and tap Safari)

  2. From the menu scroll down and tap on "Manage Extensions"

  3. On the Extensions menu, look for "Acorns" and toggle it to "on." You can toggle this "off" any time.

  4. After tapping "Done" you will be taken back to the menu. Then select "Acorns" from the menu

  5. When prompted tap "Always Allow" then "Always Allow on Every Website." If you do not, you will miss your offers.

Please note that if you do not choose "Always Allow" and then "Always Allow on Every Website" the Safari Extension will not work as it is intended and we will not be able to attribute the reward to you, so you will not be able to receive your Earn Rewards and we cannot review them for you.

If you need to review your settings to ensure your setting permissions are set to allow Acorns to track your purchase, please follow these steps:

  1. Tap the "Settings" (Gear) icon on your iOS device

  2. Scroll down and tap "Safari"

  3. Tap "Extensions"

  4. Tap "Acorns"

  5. Under Permissions for Acorns ensure that both permission settings are set to "Allow"

Additional permission settings regarding Safari Cross-Site Tracking and iCloud Private Relay can be found below.

Safari Cross-Site Tracking

Your Safari browser will need to be set up to track for the extension to work properly. Please be sure to follow these steps to allow Safari Cross-Site Tracking:

  1. Tap the "Settings" (Gear) icon on your iOS device

  2. Tap "Safari"

  3. Scroll down to "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" and make sure it is disabled (Toggled Off)

iCloud Private Relay

In order for the Earn Safari Extension to work best, be sure to update your iCloud Private Relay settings. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the "Settings" (Gear) icon on your iOS device

  2. Tap your "Apple ID" at the top

  3. Tap "iCloud"

  4. Disable "Private Relay"

Note on Acorns Tracking

In order to ensure we can successfully recognize that you made a purchase eligible for a reward, your device must not have any "do not track" settings that are enabled. These settings prevent Acorns from identifying that you have made a purchase and thus we are unable to create a reward for your account.

How to Use the Safari Extension

After installing the Acorns Earn Safari Extension and allowing it to track appropriately in order to attribute the reward to you, anytime you are shopping on your iOS mobile device using the Safari web browser that is an Acorns Earn partner, you will see an option to activate the offer. See the image below as an example:

If you initially dismissed the pop up to “Activate” the offer, that specific offer on the Safari Extension will not display for a period of time, so you will have to manually trigger the offer by:

  1. Clicking the Safari menu (aA icon)

  2. Clicking Acorns

  3. Activate the offer

*Please note, Earn Rewards emails typically arrive within a week of the purchase, however some brands, such as Travel brands, may take longer as they require a completed stay or booking.

How to Deactivate the Safari Extension

To deactivate the Acorns Safari Extension, please follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the "Settings" (Gear) icon on your iOS device

  2. Scroll down and tap "Safari"

  3. Tap "Extensions"

  4. Tap "Acorns"

  5. Toggle the switch to disable

*Acorns goes through a third party to offer the Safari Browser extension to our customers. Their terms have been negotiated at different rates than the offers you see in Acorns. For example, Nike may have 5% cash-back in our app and 2% cash-back in the Safari Extension.
